James Reade "Jim" Watlington Sr.

Services for James Reade "Jim" Watlington Sr., 63, of Murfreesboro, who died Tuesday October 20, 2003 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Jennings and Ayers, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Leonard Herman will officiate.

He was the son of the late John and Claudine Peggs Watlington. He is survived by wife Betty Parker Watlington; son James R. Watlington Jr. of Shelbyville; daughter Kelly Lee Watlington of Murfreesboro; sister Patricia R Watlington Martin of Kentucky, and Jane May of Georgia; three grandchildren. A native of Russellville, Kentucky, he had lived in Murfreesboro for the past 30 years. He was a real estate agent with Crye-Leike Realtors. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and attended the Baptist church. Nephews will serve as active pallbearers.

Jim Watlington was born on March 2, 1940 in Russellville. His father, John Watlington, was a County Agent for Logan County and died in 1966.  The Watlington family (John, Claudine, Jim, Patricia and Jane) lived on 9th Street in Russellville.  He was first married to Evelyn Watlington. They had three children: James Reade Watlington Jr. (Jim Jr.), Elizabeth Watlington, and John Russell Watlington. His second marriage was to Betty Parker. Jim and Betty Watlington had a daughter Kelly. Jim Jr. is a veterinarian, practicing in Murfreesboro. Jim Watlington Jr. has three children James, Erin and Joel. Kelly Watlington Peterson has a daughter Jessica Ann Peterson. She lives in Nashville.
